Meaning
1212 is one of the four-digit angel numbers. Believers, who hold the New Age idea that angels or the universe speak through repeated numbers, read it as encouragement. Courtney Cunningham, a crystal healer, told TODAY.com that “the number 1212 is telling you to trust”, and the astro-numerologist Sidhharrth S Kumaar said it “supports accepting fresh starts, optimism, intuition and purposeful alignment”. TODAY.com adds that 1212 means balance in relationships. The Dallas Morning News counts 1212, with 777 angel number and 333 angel number, among the common angel numbers.
Origin and history
Doreen Virtue’s 1999 list has no entry for 1212. It gives meanings for pairs of digits instead: for ones and twos, “our thoughts are like seeds that are beginning to sprout”. For longer sequences she told readers to “blend the answers from the different number combinations”, or to keep adding the digits until a single one is left.
A quirk of perception
The Oxford English Dictionary defines the frequency illusion as “a quirk of perception whereby a phenomenon to which one is newly alert suddenly seems ubiquitous”. The term comes from a 2005 post by Arnold Zwicky on Language Log; its other name, the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, from a reader’s letter to the St Paul Pioneer Press in 1994.
