555 angel number
Three fives. Angel-number writers read 555 as a sign of coming change; Doreen Virtue’s 1999 list begins, “Buckle your seatbelts. A major life change is upon you.”
Meaning
In the New Age belief that angels send messages in repeated numbers, Virtue and Mental Floss agree that 555 is the number of change. The meanings are the belief’s claims. Virtue in 1999 would not call the coming change good or bad, “since all change is but a natural part of life’s flow”. Mental Floss’s 2026 guide gives 555 “change, transformation, and spiritual evolution”, and says that five means transformation in numerology, and that the changes are “in your highest good”.
Origin and history
Virtue’s list sits in Healing with the Angels (Hay House, 1999), in a passage headed “Number Sequences”. There she explains that angels whisper so that a person looks up at a clock at the right moment, or arrange for a car with a particular number plate to drive in front of them. She told readers that their own angels would tell them if a sequence held a different meaning for them.
What psychology says about the sightings
Katie Spalding, a mathematician writing for IFLScience in 2023, says there is no science behind angel numbers: “It’s not math, but numerology.” She puts the experience down to apophenia, which the anthropologist John W. Hoopes defines as “the tendency to interpret random patterns as meaningful”.
