000 angel number
Three zeros, read by angel-number writers as a message about God and wholeness. Doreen Virtue’s 1999 list called 000 a reminder that “you are one with God” and a sign that a situation has come full circle.
Meaning
000 is one of the triple numbers in the angel-number belief, which holds that angels send messages through number sequences seen on clocks, receipts and number plates. It is a spiritual belief, found today mainly online and in New Age circles, and the meanings here are what its writers claim. In Doreen Virtue’s Healing with the Angels (Hay House, 1999), 000 is “a reminder you are one with God, and to feel the presence of your Creator’s love within you”, and also a sign “that a situation has gone full circle”. Eden Gordon’s 2026 guide for Mental Floss, written from inside the belief, reads the same number as a fresh start, “the limitless possibility of a new beginning”, and says numerology connects zero with “oneness with the divine and freedom from limitations”.
Origin and history
Mental Floss dates angel numbers to Virtue in the late 1990s. Her 1999 list ran from 111 to 999 and ended with 000. She said angels show people these sequences in two ways: they whisper, so that a person looks up at a clock at the right moment, or they arrange for a car with a particular number plate to drive in front of them. In 2005 Hay House published her Angel Numbers, written with Lynnette Brown, which covers “the general meaning of numbers 00 through 999”. In 2017 Virtue converted to Christianity; Mental Floss notes that she has since renounced angel numbers.
Full circle or a fresh start
Virtue and Mental Floss read the zeros in opposite directions. For Virtue in 1999, 000 marks something finished, a situation that “has gone full circle”. Mental Floss says 000 may appear “after an old cycle has closed” and reads it as the next cycle beginning, with “a clean slate”. Disagreements like this are common among the belief’s writers: Mental Floss itself says the meanings of the numbers “have diverged widely” since Virtue’s lists.
Why a number seems to follow you
Psychologists call the experience of a number suddenly turning up everywhere the frequency illusion, or the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon. Psychology Today describes it as a bias in which a person meets something new and then “suddenly” encounters it everywhere, because it has become more noticeable, not more common. Arnold Zwicky named the frequency illusion on the Language Log blog in 2005, and the Oxford English Dictionary added it, with Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, in 2019.
