The belief’s writers disagree about where angel numbers come from. Of the ancient Greeks, it was the Pythagoreans who, Britannica says, believed that numbers had mystical properties and held ten to be the most perfect number, as the sum of the first four (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10). How much of this goes back to Pythagoras himself is disputed. He wrote nothing, and Carl Huffman, in the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, notes that Aristotle spoke of the “so-called Pythagoreans” and may never mention Pythagoras by name in his surviving works.
