Beast of Bray Road
A wolf-like creature said to walk on two legs near Elkhorn, Wisconsin, first written up in a local weekly in December 1991.
Meaning
In 1991 Linda Godfrey, a reporter for Walworth County Week, a weekly supplement to the Janesville Gazette, was sent to look into sightings of a wolf-like, humanlike creature near Elkhorn (Wisconsin Newspaper Association). After her story ran in The Week that December, the tale of the Beast of Bray Road spread fast; Elkhorn's Christmas parade that year had a float featuring the Beast (Walworth County Community News).
Origin and history
Godfrey interviewed witnesses and turned her reporting into a book, The Beast of Bray Road: Tailing Wisconsin's Werewolf, becoming in her own words "an accidental werewolf chronicler" (Shepherd Express).
